Algorithm Caught my soul And now it takes me For a stroll Through the glade In grains of grey I’m dressed for church But out to play Start to run Out to the road When I hear Your dial up code But you never saw Into my eye So in the night I slip on by Algorithm For the lonely Occupies For a short time only Algorithm For the lonely But I'm occupied For a short time only

Main Dice is an audio-visual project by Harriet Robertson conceived in 2018. Harriet is interested in rough synth patches resembling materials like cast concrete and stone, jack hammers and the sensation of bodily awareness that occurs when surrounded by large amounts of artificial materials.

‘Artificial Flowers Are For all Occasions’ was written at the end of two years spent living and working in Los Angeles. The absurdity of corporate rituals of a day job combined with experiencing the city as a pedestrian set a tone for a strangely jovial, triumphant, yet heartfelt journey. Waking up from a corporate lullaby, stock images of business ceremonies, free trade cities flash over a green screen and settle on one suited character rolling some dice on a concrete embankment. Based on the drama which unravels in the first chapter of Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, the devil has come to town to trick office workers and manipulate the future with the roll of a dice. Whilst secretly observing the protagonist, he travels back in time to lay a cheeky trap and begin a series of pranks that get a little out of hand. And so: the couple quarrel in the sultry afternoon heat on the banks of the Los Angeles River. The visual album was shot in October 2019 in Los Angeles, and music recorded in Naarm, Melbourne during 2020. Whilst the visual story came before the music, they continued to influence each other throughout the editing process.

We acknowledge that this album was written and recorded on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri people and that sovereignty was never ceded. Visuals were recorded on Tongva land.
